Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has placed first runner-up at the 2026 Commonwealth Day National Debate Competition held at Parliament House in Accra.
The University of Media Arts and Communication (UniMAC) was crowned overall winner of this year’s debate, which was held under the theme “Unlocking Opportunities Together for a Prosperous Commonwealth.”
The national competition brought together student representatives from six universities: Central University, KNUST, the University for Development Studies (UDS), the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), the University of Media Arts and Communication (UniMAC), and the University of Ghana.
Participants engaged in a lively exchange of ideas on the role of young people in fostering collaboration, innovation, and shared prosperity across the Commonwealth of Nations.
The KNUST team impressed judges and the audience with their strong arguments, analytical reasoning, and confident presentation, ultimately securing the first runner-up position in the highly competitive contest.
Judges commended the finalists for their impeccable delivery during the debate.
The Commonwealth Day National Debate forms part of activities marking Commonwealth Day celebrations in Ghana and aims to encourage youth engagement in governance, dialogue, and international cooperation among member states of the Commonwealth.
